Another birthday cake

This is another cake that I made for my niece Ella's 3rd birthday. The Bardie in it was a little small for the whole thing but the big ones were just too big. It turned out ok, though, of course I look at it and see all the improvements it needs. It is good enough for a three year old.

Passed Due on Mother's Day

Mother's Day was a good day. I was so happy that I had some special tuffles to give out to all of ladies in the family. I have fun making these even though it took until 2:00am to have every thing finished and cleaned up. My sister Corin is really creative. She made little wrappers out of tin foil for the truffles by using a plastic liter soda pop lid and forming the tin foil around it. Then since we did not have any ribbon her idea was to use some of my extra pink material and cut it into strips. The plates turned out pretty cute I thought.

As far as the whole Mother's Day experience it was O.K. I was pretty emotional and was really picky over some things with Doug, and then at the Mother's Day dinner with the fam my sis Katie wripped off part of my eyebrow with the waxing stuff she brought. Don't worry Katie I really wasn't mad at you. Eyebrows do grow back, I was just already having some selfesteam issues that night.

Well, it is nice to have holidays come and it is also nice to see them go. I just need to figure out what I am going to do for Father's Day now.

Easter 2009

Easter was a fun time. We had an Easter party the Saturday before and it was great because we got to have lunch and the kids loved the egg hunt and it ended with cotton candy for all(since the eggs we filled with non candy treats). We then had a great time at grandma's house. We had dinner there and a huge egg hunt for them, where the all came away with a large amount of treats. IT made them very happy.

Cameron loves treats.

This was right after the egg hunt.

Miah was really getting into it. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa H.

Cake Day and Lilly's Birthday

Saturday, what a long day. I had to decorate my nephew Kyle's cake for his 17th birthday and Lilly's barbie cake. I was excited to do these cakes and to see what the end result would look like. For Kyle's cake I was told to make an army helmet. I tried looking on the internet to see if there were any other cakes like that but I could not find any. So I looked off a picture of a real army helmet with camo. I spent the beginning of the morning making chocolate frosting that tasted really good. The kids and I could not stop tasting it. I made up three different colors and I thought that they were a pretty good likeness to the camo colors. Next I had to decorate. Miah wanted to watch and be beside me the whole time. She was getting into every thing in the process and was making things a little difficult, but as long as I distracted her with having to lick off the frosting from the spatula she did fine.

She was getting a bit messy but that is OK. I planned on dealing with that later.

So this is the camo army helmet. After piping on the frosting it took me an hour to smooth it all down. The colors did end up mixing a little on the edges and really it is not a very pretty cake but it did look like an army helmet. I had originaly planned to decorate it with marshmellow fondant which would probably have looked better but I was afraid it would take a lot longer.

So Katie came and picked up the cake and they had it that night during Kyles party. I hope it tasted ok.

This is Lilly's special Barbie cakes. The house was a huge messy by the time I got to decorating these and an even bigger mess when I was done. I spent a while piping out the stars that cover that dress and I was very happy with the out come. With there being so many little stars you really can't see the areas that I messed up on. It just blended in together. Lilly really liked the colors and I think she enjoyed getting more that just one little barbie on there.

I had to buy a min cake mold and the barbie heads which come in a packet of four. They were only like two dollars so I thought it was a good deal for something special. They are not the cutest barbie heads in the world but they did the trick. These barbie's don't have any legs so that you are able to poke them into the cake.

We went to Wahooz (formally known as Boondocks) for Lilly's party. IT was just our little family who went but that was ok. We got to play games and chase after Miah. The kids got a whole bunch of tickets and lots of fun treats at the end. There were not enough little kid games and we vetoed the kid area because we thought it was too expensive. Shyesh, $2.50 per kid for this small little kid area.

Who doesn't love a ride on something that looks like a dinosaur are rocks back and forth.

We had cake and ice cream at grandma H's house. We had to poke the candles in the sides hoping that the barbie's hair would not catch on fire.

Well, she blew out the candles and wanted to get straight to the gifts and ended up not even being interested in eating her cake.

Doug had fun with it though.

And Miah enjoyed the ice cream.

Cameron loves cake so he was the one that ate the rest of the cake the following couple of days. Lilly is not a big sweets eater but I think that she did like looking at the cake that I made especial for her.

Superbowl Party

Super Bowl Party- food, family, fun and football. I really don't go to the party to watch the game so the food and family part is what I look foreword to. I was in charge of making the cake for the party. We were celebrating Sarah, great grandma, grandma, Lilly and Kyle's Birthdays all in the first week of February. Next we were getting together to say good luck to my brother Jackson who will be leaving today for the next three months for his Pilots schooling. And another good luck to my brother Lester who is trying out for the BSU football team today.

Well I had a good time eating and talking to the family, the guys watched the football game while the girls did some eyebrow waxing. We all had some cake, which turned out alright, and wished everyone well while some of the party had to leave.

There was extra cake left over, but since I am now sick of cake and frosting, I gave the rest to my parents.

I gave this purse with some extra little things to Sarah for her birthday. I thought it would be fun to learn to make a purse and I will probably try making some more on different patterns. It didn't come out as cute as I thought it would but I think Sarah could find something to us it for.

I hope you had a good birthday Sarah especial with the one hour showing of The office that you were looking foreword to. Happy Birthday everyone and Good Luck.

Girls night out

So we had girls night out at my Aunt Jolene's house on Saturday. It was fun. We each brought a finger food( I asked everyone to bring something they wouldn't normally make or something different or exciting).

I was going to bring this really easy appetizer but I thought it wasn't exciting enough. So I looked on the internet and found something on the Food Network. It looked easy, exciting and different. It was definitely not something I would normally do so I thought I would give it a try.

I bought all of the ingredients including aged Gouda cheese and prosciutto both of which I have never used. It called for toasted white bread and green apples with some honey mustard on bottom. It looks so fancy in the picture and if it looks that pretty it just has to taste good, right? Well I brought everything and assembled them there. I don't think I did everything right either but it was a good try.

After everyone got there and it was all ready we each grabbed a plate of food and one of these grown up ham and cheese finger sandwiches. We we sat down Katie was like," OK lets all try this". After I couple of bites we decided it wasn't the worst thing we had tried and it wasn't like a really strong flavor so we didn't have to spit any of it out.
Well I tried something new and it wasn't a complete disappointment, great. Oh, and Gouda cheese is really good.

So the rest of the night was enjoyable. We watched 27 dresses and made some hats on a loom for the humanitarian aid(I really wanted to learn how to make hats) and ate ice cream. We also watched Fly Boys because Katie just could not stand to watch Pride and Prejudice. The night ended with honey facials(I love those honey facials, it makes your skin so smooth.).

I love hanging out with my Aunt and it was great getting away for the night. I'm just glad that it won't be my turn to plan the next one.

Rice krispy treats

We made peanut butter rice krispy treats with chocolate on top last night. The kids were salivating at the thought of eating them. After making them we had to wait an hour for the treats to cool and harden a bit. Cameron and Lilly couldn't bare the wait but I distracted them on the trampoline until it was ready. They each had a large piece and devoured it like it was the last thing on earth to eat and they only had a couple of minutes before everything would be destroyed.

I couldn't help but record the evidence of the disappearing rice kispy treats. I knew that they must be hiding them somewhere because food just couldn't be eaten that fast. Its not possible especially for funny little kids with tiny tummies.

I happened to glance down at Miah and saw her trying to eat several rocks all at the same time. What is happening to my children I thought? How can this be done? I quickly pulled the rocks from her mouth and never was able to recover the disappearing rice krispy treats. Oh well. The world would be not different with out them.

Peanut Butter Rice Krispy treats with Chocolate

1 cup Light Brown Sugar
1 cup Karo Syrup
1 cup Peanut Butter
6 cups Rice Krispys
1 cup Chocolate Chips

Mix together brown sugar and Karo syrup in saucepan. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and add peanut butter, mix well. Add sugar mixture to rice krispys. Put mixture in a 9x13 greased pan.Smooth down rice krispys with a spatuala sprayed with cooking spray. Top with chocolate chips while rice krispys are hot to melt the chocolate. Let cool for one hour, and serve. Store in air tight container.
